The richer a company grows, the more need for security. As is the case with households. In which connection, Godrej & Boyce's Security Equipment Division, one of India's largest brands, has unveiled its new plans. With over 75 per cent of the domestic market share,a steady growth of 20 per cent and an annual turnover of over Rs 163 crore, it is now looking at the non-banking sector.

DE Byramjee, vice-president and business head, Godrej-SED-Says, "The non-banking and house segmets are picking up . White homes account for five to 10 per cent of our turnover, the non-banking sector is worth 20 to 25 per cent of the amount . Over the past four years we have spent Rs 10-12 Crore a year to improve our manufacturing Units. Homeowners are indulging in impulse buying sprees. They enter our shop for, say, a sofa set or table and end up purchasing a safe or fire alarm system. Though we think a safe is only for banks and costs the earth, nothing could be farther from the truth. For people living in highrises or hostels, small safes are becoming importat and are available for less than Rs 5,000."
